Wedding Testimonials by Our Couples
I would like to say a very big thank you. From the first phone call with Poonam, the correspondence with Angel and dealing on the day with Tilly and all the other staff, the experience has been outstanding. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband and I have been vegetarians for nearly 40 years and our sons all their lives. I can honestly say we've never been catered for so well - our compliments to the chef and kitchen staff. Nothing was too much and everyone went over and above to make the experience a brilliant one. All for incredibly good value too!
Thank you so much - me and Danny had a fantastic day and all the staff were lovely. Everything was sorted with a smile on their faces. The bar staff in the room I heard a lot about from my son and others who witnessed him happily chatting and entertaining guests with tricks. The room was laid out beautifully and both myself and Danny had a lovely evening . Thank you for all your help in making the evening extra special for us.
A special mention to Sumi - he is amazing. He was very calming and professional when faced with a tired and emotional me and was extremely patient. Reception were really helpful when I needed to book an extra room at the last minute.
Tony is also lovely, he was great on the night and arranged for tables to be laid in the function room and a separate breakfast buffet to be set up in there the morning after so that we could all have breakfast together (this was also good for other guests as we did have quite a few still excited small children in our party so they could run about without disturbing other guests). Great idea.
The night itself – everyone had a great time. The food was fantastic and all the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Dear Sarah,
Thank you so much for your thorough work organising our reception. The meetings were so helpful and enjoyable, and great for ironing out the details.
Thank you also to the rest of the hotel staff who have helped to make it such a special day, and we're glad you will be able to see the plans come into fruitation on the day (although sorry for making you come in on a Saturday!)

A Perfect Day
We got married at the Hatfield Mercure last December (2014). I was initially looking at other venues in the area. Every bride dreams of that amazing venue which will make the day perfect. I was no different. I had spent hours upon hours googling and calling venues, and had decided on a well-known venue in Ware. I got near to paying the deposit, but the staff were so cold and demanding, I decided against it.
I first arranged a viewing of the Comet to see what services they would offer there, but was very disappointed to see poor standards of cleanliness, scuffs up the walls, and a poor layout for weddings. On the way home, we pulled into the car park of the Mercure on the off chance they would quickly let me see their function room. If I’m honest, I would starting to get a little disheartened with venues. After convincing the receptionist that I didn’t mind that the room was set up for a conference the agreed to let me see the room. “When will you arrive?“ she asked. “I'm here,” I said, as we walked through the reception.
My first impressions of the hotel were clean, warm and welcoming. The reception staff all had a smile, and the young guy who had been tasked with showing me around was lovely. The reception room was a good size, with gorgeous red and green carpets. For a Christmas wedding, it was perfect. We had found our venue.
I talked prices over email, and was amazed to find that it was well within our budget. The package they offered had food, drinks, buffet, disco, and hotel stay for myself and hubby to be. By far the best package the area has to offer. Over the coming months, we were supported by Jake as our wedding co-ordinator, who I couldn’t fault. I don’t think I had a moment of stress in organising my wedding. There are not many brides who can say that. Everything was handled with professionalism and a smile. Even after my numerous emails and demands. Before I knew it, I was walking down the aisle in a room decorated by a 10ft Christmas tree in candlelight. I couldn’t at that moment have been happier - the room looked amazing. It was to this day one of the most emotional moments of my life. I am so grateful to each and every member of staff at the Mercure for that.
A wedding venue is far more than a posh hotel, or a sweeping lawn - it’s about making a memory of a day you will remember for life. And we do - it was the most amazing day. Everything went with a hitch. The food was great, the drinks were plenty, and the snow fell in the evening. Even the breakfast was great….. It isn’t a Chateu in France, or a castle in the highlands, but for me. It was perfect.

I cannot fault the service we received. Jake and Will couldn't do enough to help leading up, during and after the event. Making our day a happy and relaxing event.

We got married in Hatfield on Sat 3 May 2014 and hired the Orchard Room at the Mercure Hatfield Oak Hotel to have lunch afterwards with our 30 guests. We did not book a traditional wedding reception with a wedding cake etc. we just wanted to have a nice lunch with our families. Denise Turner, the Conference and Events Co-Ordinator, and Danny who is the restaurant supervisor were both very helpful and ensured that we had exactly what we wanted. My then fiancé and I had separate rooms at this hotel on the night before our wedding and then had a double room together on our wedding night. The rooms were clean and spacious and breakfasts was good, although the serve yourself menu was rather limited for choice. When our wedding party arrived at the hotel at 1pm, we were met by the staff and shown into the Orchard Room. We had chosen the “open square” seating plan and this worked very well. I think that Danny was a little taken aback by our lack of formality for the occasion, however, he did his best to make us comfortable and to attend to the needs of our guests. We had chosen their Finger and Fork buffet and this was enjoyed by all our guests. The mini-desserts were so popular that when I returned to the buffet table I found that there was only fresh fruit left. I drew Danny’s attention to this and he immediately went to the kitchen to bring us just a few more servings. The weather was fine and some of our guests sat outside on the patios for a while. In hindsight, we should have taken up the option of having the bar open in the Orchard Room. We had underestimated the sociability and drinking capacity of some of our guests - the last stragglers left the bar at about 9pm. My husband and I, along with two guests, entered The Gallery Restaurant at 8.45 pm without a prior booking and we were served an excellent dinner. We all had a lovely day together at this hotel and I would recommend it highly.

From start to finish, the staff at the hotel made our wedding day perfect. I didn't have to worry about anything as they were very professional. Alison, the wedding coordinator, listened to our ideas and implicated them to make it the perfect unforgettable setting. The food was outstanding and the evening DJ kept everyone on the dancefloor. Thank you to all the staff for making our day magical and one we will never forget.
